    newsgroups

Hi, i have been a mac user for nearly 3 years now and have obtained 1 ACTC and 2 ACHA qualifications.

I am also a PC user for the same with 2 MCP.

I have been using newsgroups on my pc for a few months now with great success, the files are easy to down and easy to unRAR and recompile into the final result.

I recently decided to start downloading programs for my mac, i found that on the pc they downloaded then vanished, i assume this is due to the inabillity for windows to read/write HFS natively.

So i got hold of a copy of iGrabnews for my mac to download the files direct to the OS there supposed to be on, this solved the problem.

The problem i am faced with now is that it seems far from easy to unzip/extract and recompile the files on a mac, unlike the pc where its a few clicks!

anyhow what i am presented with is a folder containing the downloaded file which have the extension of: cd1.img.bin etc upto part 56.

what programs should i use to extract this type of file to something workable like .img or tar.gz

i have downloaded a .PAR program to check the pars which works, i have also downloaded a version of RAR which again seem to work, also a copy of split&concat which also seems to work, im just not sure how to get the file back together agiain.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    Kai

Sounds like StuffIt Expander may work. Head on over to www.allume.com and download their free StuffIt Expander program. Then, for multi-part files, just drop the first file of the sequence on Expander and it should recognize that it needs to reassemble segments.

Once it expands it, you should be left with one file (the unarchived file) or folder.

    I use MacPar deluxe. http://www.xs4all.nl/~gp/MacPAR_deLuxe/
Just download the par1/2 file for the file you have downloaded and double click on it
MacPar checks the files, fixes (If you also d/l the other Par files,) and extracts.
    All on a double click.
I also need Split & Concat occasionally for those .001, .002's etc...
