iPhoto - Can't edit photos

iPhoto - Can't edit photos

I was using iPhoto 5 and just got iLife 6. On installing I had to change the albums. Now the program works but when I try to edit a photo nothing appears in the edit window. You can see the pics along the top but no way I can do anything with them. Can anyone give me a suggestion. I have tried the preferences but nothing there to fix it.
