    Epson scanner - Perfection 3490

I just bought a small scanner - an Epson Perfection 3490 Photo and cannot get the Driver to work with it. I run OSx 10.4.7 on a laptop powerbook and installed the software from the disc supplier with the unit. Nothing worked so I went on line and dowloaded the reccomended driver from Epson and it refused to work as well. After contacting Epson I got their regular list of "Uninstall all these files...." and then restart and re-install the software. I have done all this several times and still it will not work (at all). All that happens when I double click on the Scanner driver is that it temporarily pops up in the Dock and as soon as I click on my scanner model in the drop down window the icon in the dock dissapears.

    Can anyone offer some assistance?

It should work. What program are you using to try and access the scanner? Try using Image Capture with the scanner on and plugged in to the computer, see if that detects and scans. If that doesn't work I have had good luck with VueScan look for it on Google.

    Smile Epson 3490

    here's the answer.
1 Do not install the drivers from the disk that comes with the scanner they don't work.
2 If you do you will have to start the Mac with extentions off to remove them, they stay in use and cannot be deleted otherwise. And the new driver doesn't tell you that it did'nt overwrite the old ones.
3 Download and install the driver from the web site and it works fine. v3.01

    MacBook 2Ghz Intel OSX 10.4.8
