Can't log-in to system / Entourage extraction?

OK here's the problem. My hard disk failed on my power book 12". Luckily I made a back up the week before.

Now I am trying to restore my old settings and applications (etc.) to the new hard drive, and it's not working. When I start up I get to the user log-in, and the user name and password aren't being accepted. I tried using "password reset" from the utilities on the install disk (I am running 10.4), but the the hard drive is unelectable. Some one else showed me how to replace the "NetInfo Database" in single user mode, but that didn't work either.

So now I guess the question is, can some one tell me how to extract the files that contain email and the address book from Entourage? Remember that I can't boot up in the old system and export it like I normal would. I need to to go in through the file structure and actually remove the file it self? But I don't know where it is or which ones to take.

Can some one help with this?

Thank you,

Richard

Can't you simply use the migration manager? If you freshly set up 10.4 on your new harddrive and have the old one somehow connected via FW, the migration manager should be able to pick up most of the data. If the drive's readable at all...

Thanks, but it dosn't work. i've tried all sorts of things. I'm guessing that the back up isn't a compleet back up, or not all the files are transfering for some reason.
