| Mac OS/software causing keyboard to repeats letters? Dear experts: As you will see, my Imac keyboard lettters repeat while typinng. i am on my 3rd keyboard now, and am startinng to suspect this is a software issue. Hoping an expert out there can comment. i am a pretty darn good touch typist, and have used dozens of keyboards on other commputers in the past, and never had this problem. I have set the keyboard repeat rate to every setting possible and the samme thinng happens. I spent 4 houurs on 2 separate calls to Apple Care. Nice guys, but couldn't help. I tried plugging the keyboard into different usb ports -- no change. I rebooted to a black ttext screen (via Apple-S) and still got duplicated letters. There is a 'discussion forum' on exactly this topic at the Apple support site. There are some clues in that thread that you experts might find helpful-- the main debate is whether this is a hardware or a software issue. The linnk to that siite is (http://discussions.apple.com/thread....896408#2896408) Can annyone help me? - Russ (rstauffer@houston.rr.com) Last edited by rstauffer; August 12th, 2006 at 11:27 AM. |

| If it's happening while you are rebooted into Single User Mode (reboot while holding down Apple S at Startup), then it's not an OSX software issue, as it hasn't been loaded at that point. It might just be the case that you don't like the way Apple's keyboards work. I personally like a particular model of Apple's keyboards, and eschew all others if I have a choice. But the most important thing is to find one that suits your personal preferences.

| I get this on the Apple keyboard too - it seems to be an issue with certain typing styles and that keyboard. I'm now using a Logitech DiNovo Bluetooth without any problems (well, none other than my poor typing ability).

| Hi, Folks. Beware of the complete failure of your keyboard after trying the keyboard 'firmware update' that Apple has issued. I ran the stupid thing on my new iMac and surprise - the keyboard went dead, unrecognizable by the machine!! Took a week of using a junker PC keyboard and intensive hunting for another version to put it back. Finally called the tech support, got a fellow with almost no accent, 45 minutes later retried the "update" for the 4th time, finally worked. Better to have some duplicated letters than no keyboard at all!! |
