Unhappy G5 mac power button flashs 3 times

Hi,

My mac suddenly won't start up. The moment i press the on button the powerbutton flashes 3 times and doesn't go any further. No screen, no infamous startup "doonnnng" sound. Nothing.

I have checked all of the ram in another G5 and it all works fine. No startup problems. I checked the ram of the other G5 in mine and still doesn't start up.

One wierd thing is that in the process of switching ram back and forth into different slots and diffrent pair combinations, it has started up 3 times in about 40 attempts. But it is totally random. A configuration that worked once, then after turning off doesn't work any more, and can't be repeated.

Please, any suggestions

Three flashes means that the memory is incompatible. If swapping didn't work.. you could have a bad socket.

You may want to try resetting the SMU:

Also, the PRAM may need to be reset:

Bad socket? what's the solution?

Bad socket? you mean the slot that the dims are inserted into?

How should i resolve this issues, resolder the connects?

The SMU solution... i have a late 2004 version, so it's just a case of turning The G5 off and unplugging for a bit. I must say i did this once this morning and it did start up, however it only started once. After turning it off, it wouldn't restart? Never had this before.

I haven't had the chance do a Pram Zap simply because it wouldn't start up at all. Perhaps a combination of the SMU and the pram trick will work but i have my doubts, but thanks for the tips!

Unhappy Resetting SMU and pram doesn't work

Thanks for the tip, but infortunatley Resetting SMU and pram didn't help.

The first time i tried to start up i got immediately the flashing lights (x3) signal. The second time i tried it did try to start up; it actually made the startup sound "Dong" and i got a startup screen with the spinning timer and apple, but it just suddenly stopped and didn't finish the startup process. Can anyone help. You can imagine my sadness i think

Red face Power button no longer flashes 3 times

Problem is solved. It was my Mother board. Cost a fortune! 800 euro's with labour MY WORD. Now you know. Apparantly there was was masses of dust near power unit. Dust causes static, Static causes death to electrical circuits. Clean your computers!!!!

You have been warned
