Zapping the PRAM

My brother installed a 60Gb hard drive into his iBook and ran into a slight problem. None of the OS CDs would boot and when he finally got one to he ran into the problem of the firmware password he set. He kinda forgot it since he rarely uses it. Is there any way to either zap the PRAM without being able to boot or do something to get rid of the firmware password? Or would it be wiser to put the old drive back in and then try to remove the password?
