How to undelete mail account (and emails) on 10.2.3

My Mac Noob problem: Using 10.2.3 and running mail 1.2.3 with several accounts set up for different email addresses, I was tidying up these and under preferences, I removed/deleted the account from the account list on the preferences window. This action removed the account but then I found out (horror of horrors) that all the associated emails have disappeared as well as the mailbox tab showed!! Question, how might I restore or undelete the account and all emails? I cannot believe that any software designer would allow for deleting these emails so easily without some type of backup or undeleting process to allow full restoration.

Thanks in anticipation of your help.

Without a backup, your options are not very promising.

You can try using a data recovery application such as Data Rescue. ProSoft Engineering provides a free trial version.

Note that the more you use your system and hard drive, the more likely the area on the hard drive where this data was stored will be over-written by other data making recovery by any means impossible.

Thanks - but would this software allow for recovery of the file AND re installation? Am familiar with PC where file recovery is possible from lost clusters but how would you re-install the file and previous account settings?

Also just noted that their products don't appear to cover 10.2.3 - is their a big issue with this OS?

Data Rescue II v1.1.1
for Mac OS 10.2.4 or later
Buy | Free Demo | Update | Info
Data Rescue Classic v4.3.0
for Mac OS 8.6 to 9.x

Just have to upgrade to 10.2.4

You may or may not be able to recover the emails. You would have to try it. There's a demo available;

As for the account settings, you can just setup a new account and enter the settings.

Thanks Bob - I was hoping to get input from many others - is there another forum that is good for this type of question?
