Red face Safari spin spin spin

Why is it that I went ahead and accepted the "Security Update" for PowerPC last Friday? And now, every page, every time, I spin spin spin spin spin spin to get to a page. I've emptied the cache, I've reset the Airport, I've changed the airport settings, I've changed them back, I've rebooted, I've changed all types of things to see if I could get things to run faster (or as fast as it did before it started this) and I've emptied ALL my cookies.

SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN SPIN

Any suggestions? I tried to download Safari 2.0.4 to reinstall (I'm running Tiger) and I couldn't....so I'm going to try that again.

Now, remember, before you ask all the obvious questions: The speed at which pages would show up was about 5X faster than now AFTER I loaded the "You need to load this security update" update. This is the ONLY thing that has changed.

Any suggestions?

Try a combo update? Who knows, it might help. A combo update fixed something for me once.

DeltaMac will become famous soon enough
10.4.9 Combo update for PPC
http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...updateppc.html

Download and install that combo update. Doing that has been known to fix a variety of problems that show up after some software updates have been applied.

One tip - do not open any software, or even do any other work with your Mac when the Optimizing system note is shown. Better to not touch your computer at all until the update finishes. Reboot, then repair permissions.

That's the update that caused the problem! I am noticing a little bit of a better speed this morning. I think it's all the kids getting on line on MySpace, YouTube, Facetime or whatever after dinner and after school slowing down the 'net, quite frankly. It's 11am and things are moving a heckofalot faster than last night.

Get Firefox now: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

You won't regret it. I'll admit 2.0 is slower than 1.5 (I still have 1.5 on my mac and my pc) but either way you've got lots of customization options and script and ad blocking that safari just can't beat.
