Red face how to format mac os x hard drive

hi this is anresh and i brought a new mac os x mac book and i wonder why it takes long time to open any application so i just want to format the hard drive so any one can help me how to do that..........?

You should have received system discs with your Mac. Load Disc 1 into the drive, and shut down. Then, power on while holding down the "C" button, to boot from the CD. When the installer loads, you will have the option of doing a "Clean install" which will wipe the hard drive and restore your system to its original setup.
