I Mac issues

Hello all,
I am new here but not to macs. My father just bought an imac after I talked him out of a pc (wasn't too hard). He has had it for two months and is having problems.
1. Internet connect lost all his settings for his internet connection and wouldn't recognize his ethernet connection even though it was there. Apple support couldn't explain why it did that but he did get it back up. He would love for that to not happen again (he is a day-trader and could lose lots of money without internet)

2. Out of the blue his imac monitor will just go blank and nothing will bring it back up. He has to turn it on and off 4-6 times until it finally comes on.

He isn't very happy right now. Anybody have any fixes that apple support wouldn't?

Has it happened again? I would just make sure to take note of all Internet settings, on the off chance that the problem recurs, and then wait and see.

That sounds like a hardware fault, which will definitely need to be looked at by an Apple technician.
