iPhoto/Image Capture A few months ago I inadvertantly removed my memory card from the reader without first ejecting the device on my iBook, G4. After this, every time I put the card into the reader, Image Capture opens, the little dial in this window spins and says "loading images" but nothing is actually loading. I have attempted to upgrade to iLife '06 in hopes that this would displace the old iPhoto version and solve the problem. It took multiple attempts for iLife to load. When I attempted to use the new iPhoto, I received a prompt that in order to view tese pictures, all 3 settings must be switched to "read and write". I followed the directions and when I applied the settings it then indicated that these settings could not be reversed. After applying these settings, iPhoto '06 was activated. Doing this took all but 6 folders of photographs from my library. Those folders still remaining have empty thumbnail boxes when opened. The number of empty thumbnails corresponds to the number of photos that were in these folders. When I can open the new iPhoto, it will lock up the computer and show the spinning beachball. I then have to force quit out of this program. My optical drive also now will not read, and makes grinding noises while searching. To eject a disk I have to restart the computer. 1) Are these photos locked away somewhere that can be retrieved? 2) Are the the folders that are no longer shown also somewhere to be retrieved? 3) When I can open the new iPhoto, it will lock up the computer and show the spinning beachball. I then have to force quit out of this program. Can any of this be saved and made operational? I have used this computer only for photos, and been on the internet only 2 times to download an update for OS X 10.3.9.(Note: I have had a tech run diagnostics on the hardrive which showed no apparent issues. please help.

You probably messed up something on the memory card. A program such as StellarPhotoRecovery will allow you to recover the pictures.

Thanks for your input. I doubt the card is the issue since it reads fine on other computers and devices. I also have a 2nd card that behaves the samey, ie. won't work on my iBook, but does fine on other devices. I will try the software you recommend. Thanks for your help.

1. Take the card out and reset your PRAM. 2. Plug the card back in and try again and never just pull something out of the computer in a Unix/Linuk setting without first un-mounting the device first (in OS X throwing the mounted device in the Trash to unmount it). Good Luck.
