iBook G4 mac os x 10.4.3 won't get to the login screen

Startup Problem iBook G4 - mac os x 10.4.3 won't get to the login screen

I connected a firewire Drive and booted with it.
I did Disk Utility on the local drive- repair persmissions , repair disks
Rebooted the machine without the external drive..
I get the screen just b4 the login screen( where the system load)
and it just stayed there blank - nothing loads...

I booted back with the external drive...
deleted the /Library/Preference/loginwindow.plist file- no success..

can anyone help- real important to fix

sounds like a damage os, re-installation might be the only solution.

Good luck, kees

it sounds like it...
but i really can't delete the system.....
it looks that there is a preference corrupted.....

right now i just deleted the /Library/Preference folder and /Library/Caches folder and the system came back to the loging screen....

i want to know if there something specific in these folder that was preventing the system to get the login screen.....

it has happened to 4 iBook G4 already....

Most likely you are using the same program on the 4 ibooks which causes this problem. I should suggest you focus on that. If it happens to 1 system, it might be something incidental. If on more systems, there must be a common cause.

Good luck, Kees
