Hello all, Hoping to get a confirmation or denial of what I'm thinking: I have a G4 (Sawtooth) with the original Apple RAM in it, along with a 3rd party 256 meg chip. When I start the Mac up, it gets to the Apple on white screen, where the screen looks like there are thin darker bars going up and down the screen, and the comp. freezes. I have to hard-restart at this point. I'm thinking on of the RAM chips are causing the problem. What do you think? Thanks very much |

Did it start when you added the additional RAM? Does it occur when the added RAM is removed? It could be RAM as you suggest ...

If you have the original system disk or a copy of a retail OS X version (that is installed) then boot with disk and run Hardware Test or run Disk Utility. One of these things might report a problem. Also do the logs report (/Applications/Utilities/Console)? Do any of the logs report a problem? Plus what version of OS X is the machine running?
