| cable connection
Computer is 22 feet away from cable outlet. There is a bathroom in between. Comcast came to install a cable internet connection but said it is against their rules to have a cable over 6 feet. I live in a condo and in our building we have about a thousand feet of cable (I guess). What it an extra 15 feet of cable going to do to a cable internet connection? Of course the cable would have to be over the bathroom door frame so no one can step on it. |

Just have them bring in the cable in a different part of the building closer to your the destination. Then run a short 6" cable from there. If this is for cable computer connection... forget it and call your phone company for a DSL line...

Just have them install it where they want to. Then just get a longer cable yourself at Walmart, radioshack, whatever. And move it where you want to. I've got comcast and did the same thing when I moved my computer. Don't get DSL, it blows compared to cable, IMHO.

I've never had a phone company person say "Sorry sir, we are not authorized to put a phone line into that room"...

The cable company limits the length of the cable because the longer the cable the worse the signal may get. They are just covering their bases.

the cable, the satelite, the phone co. - they've all run wires whereever i told them. they couldn't make it coming out of the wall between the kitchen and the living room , but from any outside wall, no problem.

Forget about the wires. Just get a wi-fi access point. You can get the new 802.11-G Linksys for only $130 and an airport card for $99. If you want to avoid the wires it is well worth the investment. And if you have a powerbook/ibook, then you should definitely invest in wi-fi.
