How to get rid of the annoying blue on the left bar everywhere in 10.5?

I mean the left bar in Finder and in everything else in 10.5.
It looks nice .. but in one application. Not in every single application.

System Preferences Appearance pane doesn't have a way to get rid of it, so even if you select graphite and some other color, the light blue background familiar from iTunes 7 and now in everything else is there.

I would assume 3rd party hacks should provide a way to get rid of it. But is there any built in way to get rid of it? I don't want to see any more light blue there, it reminds me too much of Vista... so how can I change that color, or make it graphite, metallic, some other color or something else?
