How is your network configured? My guess is that the printer and your laptop are on different parts of the network, which is why a direct connection works..
I am using a power book G4. Suddenly I am getting the error "printer not responding" I have never had this before.
The printer is a QMS Magicolour 6100. I print wirelessly from my airport connection. Operating system OSX 10.3.9. I have checked that Appletalk is active.
If I connect an ethernet network cable directly into my laptop I can print ok but this is a little inconvenient.
Can you help.....it's driving me mad!

everything on the network is connected via ethernet to a hub, the airport hub is also connected to this
