Cool Audio codec auto-conversion during iPod sync??

Greetings!

Regarding iTunes, if I have music on iTunes encoded with Apple Lossless, is it possible to set up automatic conversion of these to MP3 format during syncing with an iPod Nano? I do want the songs on the computer to remain unchanged in Apple Lossless format, but the copies that go to the iPod to be MP3 format, due to the iPod's more limited storage.

Thanks for any assistance,
Alra111
