| iTunes "Skipping"
OK so I switched from PC to Mac. Generally, I am happy... My new Mac is an iMac 20" with 2GB of RAM. Running Leopard OS. My complaint is that all my music skips in iTunes. Even when iTunes is the only application I have open. Having read the previous posts from other members, I deleted all my preferences and that did not solve anything. Activity monitor shows somewhere in the neighborhood of 90% idle CPU even when the "skipping" is going on. These are MP3 files that I imported from the original CD's using iTunes to rip. The only applications I have added to my Mac are "Office for Mac 2004" and "Quicken 2007". My Leopard installation has QuickTime 7.3 pre-installed. Anyone have any ideas? |

On the general mac maintenance type of approach, you can rebuild the permissions. I do not yet run Leopard, but I suppose this is still located in the Utilities folder with the Application. You must open the Disk Utility application and then run the "repair permissions". It can take some time but this is a usefull maintenance task. Your harddisk is not full I presume.

This problem does not seem isolated to iTunes - there is a lag when I am doing normal tasks like browsing the internet and other very basic stuff. Periodically (way more than normal) the cursor freezes and after a second or two it changes to the spinning beach ball. After 2-3 seconds everything I typed catches up and the applications respond but seriously this is ridiculous. Even when typing in the text editor I get lags!!! I repaired permissions, cleared the PRAM, spent 1.5hrs with Apple support until my cordless phone battery died and I lost the call. I find a lot of forum posts from people with these same problems - some are attributed to a conflict with QuickTime, most are just questions with no answers. I have 2GB of RAM and 320MB of hard drive space. I have very few files on this brand new iMac since I am now debating packing it back up and sending it back - switching back to *gasp* Windows. I don't want to, but I can't help but feel that I am getting nowhere near my money's worth here... |

Hi did you get a result with this or have you packed up and gone back to Billy Gates? I'm interested as I've got lag problems as well, however I thought it was a problem with OSX.4 and you clearly have Leopard. Sorry no answers just more questions. Thanks |

| Bad iMac
OK so after about 40 hrs troubleshooting, erasing and reinstalling the OS, wading through escalation after escalation with Apple Care, they replaced my iMac. Turns out there were hardware issues. My new iMac runs great and exhibits none of the earlier problems.
