Any free software to cut lyrics from songs?

I am looking for a free and simple to use software for cutting the voice track from songs and leaving the instrumental and sound effects. My OS is 10.3.9. Also have non-intel tiger.

Can Garage Band do this? I looked at it for the first time yesterday and was unbale to open an MP3 on it.

This is a guess. Just a guess. I hate when I post, people read, and no one responds so I'll venture a guess. Do you know of any software that is able to do that at all, be it OS X, MS or otherwise? My guess is you can't. The reason that you are able to get instrumentals, acappellas and whatnot from recording studios is that they are recorded onto separate tracks. An mp3 is not (not my knowledge) separated into tracks. If I had to make an analogy, I think it'd be like using layers in photoshop and then converting the layers into a jpeg. Once you've done that, it's one single file and the individual layers are not editable. If you want the instrumental, you'll either have to copies of the masters or buy it. Again, that's just my guess.

Btw: love your cookies...

Correctomundo!

Good simile - mp3s are like Photoshop with layers converted to a jpeg.

Still, it's amazing what pros can do with even a single audio track. But as far as I know there are no simple ways to do this well.

I know Audio Hijack Pro comes with a "karaoke" 4fx plugin which attempts to do what you want. It's not really that effective, but it can do a decent job on some tracks, anyway.
