| Migration Assistant: Ti Powerbook to Aluminum iMac
I'm the proud new owner of a 24" Aluminum iMac running Leopard, and I tried to use Migration Assistant to transfer my documents, applications and media (I chose not to transfer settings) from my G4 Ti Powerbook running 10.3.9 to my new iMac last night. When I went in to check on it this morning after a 7 hour ordeal (understandable for 47+ GB over firewire 400), it said that there was an error transferring one library item (with a long name I've since forgotten) and it asked me if I wanted to continue. I chose to continue. Then it said that Migration Assistant was complete, with one problem. So I went to look for these transferred files... and they're nowhere to be found! Was that entire 7 hour process all for nothing because of this one library item that wouldn't transfer? Or did MA put my documents and files in some obscure location that I just haven't found yet? The files are not in the home folder of the existing iMac user and it did not transfer the user account from the Powerbook into Macintosh HD/Users/... Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to go through that again. |

Looks like nothing was transferred, so I decided to go about transferring files manually. It actually took a little less time and I was in control of where the files ended up. For others considering using Migration Assistant to move from a PowerPC Mac to an Intel Mac, I would recommend setting up your old machine in Target Disk Mode and just dragging and dropping the files you want onto your new machine. It's less hassle that way. Cheers. |
