G4 powerbook kernel panic on startup

Hi,

I have a 4 year old G4 powerbook. The hard drive recently failed. I had also been running it with a broken CD drive. So, I bought a new internal hard drive and new CD drive and installed them both myself.

I have not been able to boot up the machine successfully with all outcomes ending in a kernel panic stating "unable to find driver for this platform: "Powerbook6,2"

I've tried to boot up from an install disk, holding down c at start up and holding down d at start up.

I'm aware that the reason may be my less than perfect hard drive and cd drive installation, however I followed instructions on the web pretty closely and would like to eliminate all possibilities before admitting defeat and heading over to the local apple store!

I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks v much.
