Applications only run from /Applications

Hello,

I have a mac laptop with Tiger on it. It also has workgroup managment. I've noticed that applications will only run from the /applications folder, if I put them anywhere else, they just bounce and close. I'm wondering how this works for educational perposes. If I were to do this on a clean install of Mac, how could I do this? Would I also need osx server or is it a script of sorts? are there other ways of doing it?

thank you

How could you do what? I don't see how it's a limitation that Applications can only run from the Applications folder. Frankly, I'm relieved that a certain degree of enforcement is going on -- scattering Applications about is messy and irresponsible.

Workgroup Manager is for managing the Directory Domain on a Mac OS X Server machine.
