Photoshop startup problem

Hello:
I'm new here and have a question I'm having trouble finding an answer for. It is in regards to Photoshop CS (8). When I start the app it starts up to the flash screen and then quits. The crash log shows crashdump (428): Adobe Phoshop CS crashed.
I've had problems with a new Epson 3170 scanners software not working properly. I uninstalled it and did a re-install. After that is when the Photoshop problem appeared. I've trashed PS pref's. Re-installed it. but still the same problem. I've run repair disk permissions. and TechTool Pro. and YASU. but no help. Has anyone ran across this problem before? Please help. I've had this happen before but trashing the pref's took care of it. I also ran font doctor and fixed what font problems there were. but it also did not help. Thank you.

If you don't have it already, get FontExplorer from Linotype. It's free and it rocks! Don't ever use FontBook: http://www.linotype.com/fontepxlorer. You can go to Tools/Clean System Fonts and this helps tremendously.

Put all moved fonts into your user fonts folder. Don't store all your user fonts in the library/fonts or system/fonts folders. Keep them in the main directory of your hard drive. 'Add to Libarary' to add fonts to FE.

Create a new admin user account on your machine if you haven't already. If it works in that account then you know it's something in your user account causing the issue. If not, then it's system wide.

What OS X are you in?

Cool Photoshop won't launch

Hello thank you for your reply:
I'm currently running OS X 4.10 on a Powermac G4 1.35Ghz. Using Suitcase Fusion for font management. I ran font doctor that came with suitcase and there were many font problems. I will try the two suggestions you made. FYI there are things you need to do to your font folders in OS X.4 to make suitcase work. Taking out all but the necessary fonts except the ones you need to run the OS. All had been going well until I hooked up a new Epson scanner. When I installed there recommended patches to there scanner software Photoshop would no longer launch. I have deleted all the epson software that I can find. Trashed PS's prefs. and plist files. And it still doesn't work. Thanks for the help.

Hi. I've had your problem before after installing Photoshop plug-ins. Uninstalling/reinstalling did the trick, but you have to be sure to delete the Adobe Folder from the Application Support folders in both your User's Library folder and Macintosh HD's Library folder before you reinstall.

And you should turn off all managed fonts in FontBook so there are no conflicts. I have heard of issues with Suitcase Fusion in Tiger OS X. Definitely try FontExplorer, maybe that will help.
