.Xdefaults does not set my default xterm

Hi,

I've added an .Xdefaults file to my home directory on MAC OSX (OS 10.4.11, X11 1.1.3) but it has no effect on my default xterm. I should be using a bash shell as I've made no changes to the defaults in X11.

I can effect the terminal colors by customizing my applications menu in X11 and adding new commands like "xterm -fg white -bg black".

Cheers,
Eli
