Why can't I put my Mac to sleep?

Hi, Ican't seem to put my Mac to sleep anymore. It started to do it every now and then but now it wil not sleep at all. The screen seems to sleep but the disk just keeps going. Can anyone help with this?

What kind of Mac do you have, and how are you putting it to sleep? What third-party hardware is installed?
