| How does a website know which country I am in? I live in the UK. Our prices are in Pounds Sterling. I am going on holiday in Europe soon and I'm trying to check some prices in Europe. Some companies have similar websites but with different URLs for each country, but on some, whichever one I use, I always get a price quoted in Pounds Sterling. I want to know what the local price is in Euro or Swiss Francs. What I'm trying to do is see if it is cheaper to buy some stuff while on holiday or buy it here. For example, how can I get a Swiss website to give me prices in Swiss Francs? I've tried typing in the ******.ch URL and I still get English pages and prices in Pounds. |

| From your IP address. No easy away around it other than searching for an open proxy server in the country you're interested in. |

| See more on www.networksolutions.com. Type in the domain of your isp and you will get all sorts of information, including what country in which their servers reside.

| Huh??? I thought it was part of the http chit chat back and forth and ultimately it comes out of your language settings. It would be an interesting test to see. If you go to these other countries to see if the prices change.

| Thanks for the info! Never knew there was so much there....I've had a quick play and all the various links down the line are UK until it gets to ripe.net in the Netherlands. I think I'll ask a friend in Germany to have a look at the sites I'm interested in. |
