Slide show OSX quitting

In powerpoint, when I attempt to view either the 'presenter tools' or the 'slideshow' of my presentation, powerpoint quits. This is the case with old ppts, and new ones, and simply the first slide in powerpoint when you open a new file. help! I've done all of the software updates, and also tried uninstalling/reinstalling ms office. nothing seems to help.
