Tiger 10.4 won't update

After having had to replace my HD due to failure I proceeded to reinstall Tiger 10.4 from DVD. After installation is complete I used a previously dl MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.11.dmg to update. It doesn't allow me to choose a volume. Get "This volume does not meet the requirements." This is the same dvd i used before. So it did work at one time. But now no.

I have googled the problem and found little help. And what I found and tried:

1 - removed /Library/Receipts and restarted and retryed to no avail.
2 - delete the /Library/Preferences/ softwareupdate plist with restart also did not work.
3 - Wiped the HD and started again. Same problem.

I am frustrated and at my wits end. HELP!

What happens if, after a fresh install from your install DVD, you just click on Apple->Software update, select the required update and let it do it's thing?

I would guess that you are using the wrong 10.4.11 combo update.
There is one for PPC Macs, and one for Intel Macs. Which do you need?

If your copy isn't working, you should download it again from the Apple web site.
Here's good links for both:

Intel only
