Encrypted disk image errors!

Hi there,

I recently used disk utility to create 5 encrypted disk images (sparse images?) on an external firewire hard drive. I filled all of them with personal information that I wanted to keep secure such as banking information etc.

Over the past few days when I have connected the firewire drive to my mac and tried to mount the disk images I get various errors. 2 disk images give the error "corrupt disk image" and 1 gives the error "no mountable file systems".

I think the issue may have arisen when my computer shut off with the firewire still connected and several of the disk images were mounted. I serached for answers online but there were all very complex and all seemed related to filevault which is enabled on my computer but doesn't seem to be related to this problem.

The errors happened using an iBook G3 running Mac OSX version 10.2.9 but I also have a Macbook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo running Mac OSX 10.4.10 if it is easier to use this computer to solve the problem.

I am at my wits end as these disk images contain literally years worth of material that I didn't store anywhere else as I assumed this would be the safest option.

I am not massively tech savvy so if you could walk me through the steps to possibly getting this material back I would be so so grateful.

On the offending mac disconnect the drive and reset your Pram. Plus mount the drive and then use /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and use that to Repair permissions and try to fix the hard disk. Good luck.

Thanks so much for the reply Satcomer..unfortunately that didn't change the situation. Is there anything else I can try?

I also tried creating a new user account and attempting to open the disk images using this but to no avail...
