Panasonic NV-EX3 Via FireWire

Is it possible to get Imovie (or anything else) to recognize my NV-EX3 camcorder (on OSX) via FireWire? NV-EX3 works fine on all PC's, browsing forums and www and contacting MAC and Panasonic has not provided a solution, this seems to be impossible! Any suggestions would be appreciated, I really would like to be totally free of Windows!

Thanks for link, nothing really useful there except selecting older version of Imovie and installing. Fortunately my son (now flown nest) left old Mac G4 which I dusted off and checked that Imovie (4.1) still worked with CamCorder with intention of installing on my MacBook Pro but did not like idea of running alongside current version. However I found 'Roxio Toast Titanium 6.0' on the G4 which also worked with CamCorder. I have installed this on my MacBook Pro and it works fine - it probably works with many CamCorders it describes my Panasonic NV-EX3 as 'Generic CamCorder'. Why can't Apple do this on current version of Imovie?
