Mail.app doesn't work when I'm at work

Mail.app will not download my work emails while I am at work, although it works fine when I am at home.
The settings are exactly the same as for Thunderbird on my desktop, which works fine. Anyone have any ideas what the problem might be?

You are using two different applications, but you say that the settings are exactly the same?

All the settings I have been able to find are the same, i.e. port number, security settings.
I can't see what is set up differently.

Compare your settings with another system at work. It is possible that the settings inside the network differ from the settings outside the network.

Also always use full names for the server names, this can cause problems too.

Do you get any error messages. CAN you PING to the mailserver address, and does it return the same address (very likely it will not by the way).

Good luck, Kees

Maybe your company has set up firewalls preventing everything except company emails being downloaded and read. If anyone else can't receive anything else than company emails then this would be the case.
Is there any company AUP for mail use in use?
