iMAC DVD drive won't read software DVD's

I have an iMac 2.1 GHz PowerPC G5 from 2007 and suddenly the DVD drive won't read the software DVD's I'm trying to install. The puzzling part is that it does still load music CD's into iTunes. When I insert a DVD into the drive it sounds like it's trying to load the DVD but doesn't ever "spin" as it does with a CD in the drive. Any ideas before I have to lug this G5 to Tekserve? Thanks.
