Someone tell mail that internet is not always there...

I am writing because I am a little dismayed at Apple Mail.

This application that does multiple things, including RSS integration, etc. does not seem to be able to manage more simple things such as sending mail from a portable on a not so good internet connection (typically via wifi).

I say this because I work on the road and I sometimes don't understand how it behaves.

For example, it tells me baud rate of transfer, which is what? I want to know in how much time, at the present baud rate, my emails will be dispatched. In other words, do I have time for a coffee, go to the toilets, or not.

Or, I write a mail and press send, it will not appear in the outbox, but somewhere in limbo. So I ask myself has it been sent or not?

Or when the connection is real bad and one of my 20 odd mails just won't get through. I get 20 odd messages asking me to edit, try another server or try later. I just need one message, not 20!

Etc. etc., quite honestly if Mail works wonders on a good internet, it is a little (very) poor for a bad connection.

Messages are sent through your account's SMTP server. Many Internet Service Providers disallow access to SMTP servers outside their domain. It may be possible to use Port 567 rather than Port 25 to access your SMTP server from a different domain. There is, however, no guarantee.
