Macpro Optical Drv.failure

It seemed like a good idea to upgrade to HD. BUT ever since i bought a panasonic HDC-sd9 camcorder (AVCHD) My mac-Flip-flop has done exactly that.
I cant burn dvds but Can burn i-tune music files. This whole nightmare started rearing up after attempting AVCHD transcoding ?
OR WAS IT THE UPGRADES FROM BIGMAC. ?
I have performed back-up after back-up of my important image flies, Disc utility has been used and abused to the best of all forums advice. Plus that nice Mac-man on the telephone advised me to archive & install (cmnd-C)

Now after Arc&Inst. I cant seem to re-register i work 08,
But at least the Avchd issue is resolved , but only after purchasing VoltaicHD, a wonderful transcoder for an ideal alternative ($15) .
4days into my 7day wedding dvd deadline Still no joy with the optical.
In 'desperate' mode i purchased i Life o8. Even better at thumb nail HD editing thus saving on render time , Ha ha result @last?

Urrr, yeah, But nope, Yet another MrShita.dvd Rejection Thanx !

Please help, plz, or iam dead (like the optical drv.)
