| Finder not working Hi, I Just installed a OSX 10.3.9 in a iBook G3 500 mhz, 20 Gig HD and 576 Ram, previously it had OS 10.2. Everything works but the Finder keeps starting and stoping, the HD Volume is not visible on the Desktop, actually nothing can be viewed on the Desktop. I have tried repairing disk and repairing software, I have reinstalled the OSX 10.3.9 and it keeps doing the same thing. Also I restarted with Safe mode and Single user mode and nothing happens, I am running out of ideas. I've red going through Applications and Disk Utility but I dont have access to the apps. When I change the startup disk to OS 9.2 everything works well. Thank you for taking the time look at this issue, |

| Does this 10.3 disc that you upgraded with have a silver X on the disc or is it a solid gray? If it's solid gray, is the disc specifically for that iBook model? If not, then there's your problem. The gray discs are OEM discs that only work with the Mac models they shipped with. You need to use a retail version of OS X if you want to install it on any PowerPC Macintosh that is supported by it (the retail version has the silver X across the disc). See the attached picture...
