problems with keyboard and trackpad

This happens pretty intermittently, but sometimes upon startup neither the keyboard or trackpad work. I usually use a bluetooth mouse/keyboard when I'm at work so dont experience this issue there. I'm on a intel based macbook pro running 10.5.4. This problem just popped up in the last few weeks or so. I've read that there are some issues with Leopard and keyboard troubles, not sure if there's anything I can do. I once had a situation where if I held down one of the keys for long enough, the keystroke would register, but I'd have to do that for every key. That hasnt been working recently, though.
