Saving Clips From I Movie To Desktop

I was wondering if there was a way to take clips that I am importing to i movie 4.0.1 from a panasonic DV102D to my desktop or hard drive or any other location other than i movie. I ask because I am running out of space and need a perminet solution to that problem

Well when iMovie saves a clip it is really saving that clip ON YOUR HARDDRIVE in the folder /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Movies/. So how space is left on your hard drive?

You can always buy and external hard drive and move your music and movies to that drive and this will save a lot of space on your internal drive. Just get an external that is firewire or firewire 800 (if your Mac can handle that).

I'm using iMovie 7, so I can't verify whether or not this is applicable ... and I hope this addresses your question correctly ... but until there is a definitive way to redirect your imports away from iMovie - here's a possible workaround:

If when importing you are required to create a project ... then save the project to the Desktop then quit iMovie and Ctrl/Right-Click the project and select "Show Package Contents". In the Finder window that open, search around in the folders there for your movie then drag it to the Desktop, close the window and delete that project once you have checked that the imported movie plays properly.
