Mac mail dropping password

Mac Mail keeps dropping the password to retrieve mail from my ISP - now I have to manually enter it each time I want to get mail from the server - it doesn't appear to be stored in the keychain since every time I get the message I'm prompted to enter and store it in the keychain. I ran repair permissions, no change.
Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks

Write down on paper you ISP Mail server settings to remember them. This is important because we will delete them to reset them.

Can you find the entry in /Applications/Utilities/KeyChain Access and delete the entry. Then while still in KeyChain Access go to the KeyChain preferences and apply KeyChain first aid. Then go your /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ and find the entry com.apple.mail.plist and put it into Trash.

Lastly open Mail and setup your ISP settings again. This should reset everything without loosing your saved email.

Let me know if this works, good luck.
