Word's 'save as' has gone weird

Hi, I've been happily running Word 2004 for Mac (11.3.5) on my MacBook Pro with no problems until this week. Suddenly the 'save as' function in the drop down menu has defaulted to 'save as web page'. The previous (normal) 'save as' option has vanished.
The Save section in Word Preferences shows it as 'Word Document' but that's not reflected in the drop down menu options. I tried changing the preference to 'save as Web Page (HTML)' and then changing back to 'Word Document' in case that might wake it up, but no luck.
As things stand, if I want to save a document as another version I have to go 'save as web page' and then change it on the dialog box back to a Word Document, which is obviously a bit tiresome. The only recent change I have made to my machine is to apply the 10.5.4 patch on Mac OSX.

Have you tried re-installing Word 2004?

DeltaMac will become famous soon enough
Reinstalling is not necessary.
It's very easy to change the format of any menu, and Word customizing can really change how everything looks.
Go to your View menu, then Toolbars, then Customize Toolbars/Menus...
Choose Commands, then drag Save As... back to the File menu.

Hi DeltaMac, thanks a lot for this tip, I'd never found that Customize/Toolbars function before. Having looked in there, however, I'm still struggling. The 'Save As' command does actually appear in the File section of the Commands dialog box, but oddly it's the only one in that list without an icon alongside it. Tried dragging 'Save As' from that Commands box to the Toolbar, and it will 'stick' up there in the Toolbar in a visual sense, but it has no executive power. And it still doesn't appear in the pulldown File menu.

I was thinking only of the pull-down menu ....a reinstall may still be a painless option if the install media is at hand ...

Remove & Reinstall Office for OS X

Look for the Word Unistaller here:
/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/Remove Office.
Note: Remove Office is installed by default when you do a full install of Office 2004. If you can’t find it in the above location, you will have to custom install it from the Office 2004 CD.
