wickedc is on a distinguished road
AFP mount issue, error -5002.

Hi,

We have a client whose environment is set up with Mac servers as well as iMac clients. The Mac Servers act as basic file servers only (shared folder used by all users visiting as guests) and no user domain management features are used.

We are facing a problem on the iMacs where, after a fresh reboot and the login screen is displayed, if a user logs in less than 45 seconds after the screen appears, the network mount (1 mount only, via AFP) to the server could result in an error.
We have tried 10 seconds, 30 seconds as well as 45 seconds delays.

Wait 10 sec -> network mount always fails
Wait 30 sec -> occasional failure
Wait 45 sec or more -> all mounts work correctly.

Experiments with both admin and standard level accounts at the iMac clients produce similar results. Logging out and re-login again appears to be ok -- the mounting works as expected. "Connect to Server" works well too.

The Server is running Leopard Server 10.5.1 and the iMacs are OSX10.5.2.
Server and clients are running in different subnets.

Appreciate if anyone can give insight on possible causes or references to useful resources.

THANKS!
