Help with irda adapter and VPC

I have vpc 5 with win xp. I just bought a samsung v205 and and irda adapter. When i try to install the drivers for the irda adapter i goes through. Then i have to plug in the adapter and windows should detect it and another driver install window should come up but it doesnt. When i try to use it it doesnt work? Why isnt it recognizing it? Is there any way i can check to see if it picks it up?
