Scanner not found

Hi,

I bought a HP Photosmart C4480 all in one scanner/printer a few days ago. On the day it was bought, during set up, i was able to scan. Now when i try to scan it says 'scanner not initialised (scanner not found). I'm able to print and copy and have spoken to HP support who said that the hardware is fine, and recommended that i try mac support as it could be an issue with communication or software. Is there any way you can help? Please!

Thanks

Hughvane will become famous soon enough
Go through Printer Setup Utility once again. You may need to reinstall software.

I actually have this same problem now. I've had the HP Photosmart c4480 for the past year and a half and it's worked great for me, but this past week the scanner has refused to work. It prints and copies fine, but my computer will not acknowledge the scanner anymore.
I've already tried uninstalling the printer software and reinstalled it, but that hasn't worked. I'm at my wit's end, does anyone have any suggestions?

Are you running Snow Leopard?

If so, you no longer use hp software to scan. You use Apple's "Image Capture" program, located in your Applications folder.

It's true that I just recently updated to snow leopard, so I thought that you must have hit the nail on the head. But I just tried image capture, and that won't work either. *sigh* Thank you for the suggestion though, ElDiablo.

Edit: Okay, so I finally managed to wade through the vast depths of mac's forums, and I found this link/download.

I still can't use the original scanner software, but now at least my scanner will send the pictures to my computer.

seems like a big glitch in the snow leopard program and using the Image Capture application solved the problem - thanks for the good advice!
