There are few known viruses for the Mac OS X but the company is still recommending the users to install antivirus software on their Apple Macs. Apple states on one of the pages on their website: Apple encourages the widespread use of multiple antivirus utilities so that virus programmers have more than one application to circumvent, thus making the whole virus writing process more difficult. They also recommend some applications which can be used. These are: Intego VirusBarrier X5, Symantec Norton Anti-Virus 11 for Macintosh, and McAfee VirusScan for Mac.  |

And Apple has removed the message today. It was an old, outdated general message that just had its list revised a couple of weeks ago.

The warning is a reminder that the best virus barrier on the Mac is device between the keyboard and the chair. All one has to do is not double click everything and NEVER trust web pages asking one to install a QuickTime plugin to view a video when you never needed plugin before. The only video plugins a typical Mac user will need are Flip4Mac and Perian. Also remember the all purpose video player VLC will play most any non-DRM video file out on the net. Lastly for any other DVD program HandBrake for any other video files.
