If you want to make the drive visible, stable and read/write on Windows read the thread [HOWTO] Make Windows see HFS+ formatted drives.

Also you can read How to make your Mac OS X recognize, read, and write to NTFS volumes. However IMHO this is not as stable as MacDrive is on Windows.
