Missing CD/DVD driver

Imac G5 won't recognize cd or dvd and dvd plaver won't open, says no dvd driver. I just did some software updates. Any suggestions?

Were the updates Apple updates? If so, re-apply. If an OS update, go to Apple and get the "combo" updater and use that.
