    Strange Mac Mail Bug

    Hi there

I have a strange bug occuring in Mac Mail.

Mail randomly tries to send emails from my Mac without my permission. I use IMAP email and have only one email account and have never had any problems before. Incoming mail is received fine and everything works as it should except for this bug.

The emails typically try and send when I wake the computer from sleep, and it usually comes up with an error concerning the SMTP server not being able to send the rogue mail. This doesn't happen when I send regular mails out (e.g. no warnings or problems regarding SMTP).

The rogue mails seem to have content matching my incoming mails and they have myself in the To: field. Sometimes I even hear the 'sent mail' sound when I wake the computer up but when I look in the sent items there is no sign of any rogue emails - just ones I know I've sent.

I have an Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro running OSX 10.4.11. Mail is version 2.1.3.

Does anyone have any ideas on this baffling problem?

If it happens only on one user out of millions, what makes it a bug before eliminating all the environmental factors and settings?

What rules have you set up in mail?
When you put the Mac to sleep, are there any mails hanging in outbox or waiting for being sent?
Do you have any mail addons? Growl?
Do you have one or multiple accounts set up in mail, and does this happen on all?
Open Console, place a marker on the logs, and put the Mac to sleep as you put usually and when you get this error to happen again, what shows in the logs?

    Hi Giaguara

I checked and there was a mail left hanging in the Outbox - I tried to delete it and although it disappeared it was still there when I clicked off the Outbox and back onto it.

I then did a search in Google for "one email left in outbox mac mail" and stumbled upon the following page detailing a similar thread with someone experiencing the exact same problem:

    http://discussions.apple.com/thread....sageID=8545607

So I tried the option suggested of re-building the Sent items mailbox and.... it worked!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
