ibook g4

I purchased an ibook g4 8 months ago from a school. It works great but I can't make any updates because old passwords are currently on the comp. How do i reset the passwords without losing any of my info. that I have on my comp? Do I have to set up a new username? Need help

If you are in the admin account then you can simply go to System Preference, then go to accounts. After that make a new user and make it an admin account. Once its created, log into your new account and copy all the information from your old account to your new one then delete the old one that was there.
