Leopard Install Help PLEASE!!

Hello! I have an imac, bought about a year and a half ago, It came with Mac OS X 10.4.11, I just purchased a new laptop with leopard and want to load it onto my desktop.. Unfortunately, I can't?! I load in the CD, then I double click on the install disc icon (as per the instructions) then Click "English" then it stops and says "can not install on this computer" I'm assuming they want me to buy leopard for my imac as well, BUT there has to be a way to make it work?!?!! Your help is greatly appreciated!

The gray disks that ship with newly-purchased Macintosh computers are system-specific, meaning they can only be installed on the Mac model they shipped with, listed on the front of the CDs/DVDs.

You cannot use the disk from your laptop to load OS X on your iMac for two reasons:

1) The disk, as mentioned above, is system-specific and will refuse to install on your iMac
2) It is a violation of the EULA for Mac OS X and is illegal (1 disk = 1 computer, that's it, with the exception of the "Family Pack" of Mac OS X)

Yes, that's the point. They want you to purchase one copy of Leopard for every Mac you wish to upgrade to Leopard. That's how they make money and stay in business and produce great products time after time.

Have two Macs that you want to put Leopard on? You must purchase two retail copies of Leopard. Three Macs? Three copies. And so on.

Apple does offer a discount for Macs located in the same household with the Leopard "Family Pack," which is sold at a discount and allows you to install one copy of Leopard on up to 5 machines at home.

Nope, ain't gonna happen. You're going to need to purchase a retail version of Leopard if you want it on your iMac.

What more is there to answer?

1) You cannot use the disk you're trying to use. It just won't work. Even if there were a way to "hack" the disk to make it work, we couldn't discuss that here due to the board rules. This place is strictly legit -- no talk about "warez" or trying to bypass copy protection schemes, etc. There are plenty of places on the internet, found with simple Google searches, that specialize in "gray area" stuff -- this is just not one of those places.

2) You cannot use one Leopard install disk to install Leopard on more than one Mac. You must purchase as many copies of Leopard as you wish to install on as many Macs.

macfan55: The license that comes with a Mac is not transferrable. We don't allow talk about circumventing Apple's license here on macosx.com. Read the board rules as well.
