Unique Problem!! Running WIndows Programs on Darwine. Pls Help! Someone ASAP!

can someone PLEASE help me ive been working at this for hours and hours and finally i think i found a loophole..

im trying to run kai photo soap which is an old windows/classic mac program from an install CD that i have.

When i insert the install CD into my macbook, the ".exe" windows files does not show up....thus preventing me from trying to use Darwine to run the ".exe" set up...

the only files that show up on the CD are the classic mac install files....as shown here



which i then have to use an emulator to run...went thru two different emulators needless to say...the interface on the emulator is too sluggish and ultimately did not run the program

then i got an idea that i would put the install cd into a PC and copy all the necessary install .exe files from the cd and put it on a flash drive....i then used the flash drive on my pc and VOILA! all the .exe files are there .





i clicked on the "soap.exe" file and it started running via darwine







i was so happy but then it said this

"the installer must be run from the CD





UGH! so were back to square 1!


my question is HOW can i get my macbook to make the "soap.exe" file show up on my install cd so that i can install the program?

its reading all the mac related files by default and ignoring the window files i want it to recognize the window files in the cd so i can click on the soap.exe file...

is there a way i can somehow force my computer to run the soap.exe file from the cd??

Exe needs Windows or its frameworks.

You could try Crossover to run the Windows application.
Or Sheepshaver to emulate OS 9 and run it via there. But you'd need OS 9 discs for that.
Or you could run the Windows version of application via Fusion or Parellels or VirtualBox but those would all require a copy of Windows as well. Crossover is the best bet if it runs on that as it would not need a separate version of Windows.

hello, but as demonstrated by my description (did u read it? )
i was able to run the exe files without windows by using darwine.

my computer can run exe files thats not the problem...the problem is that since my install disc is a "2 in 1" (it has both the PC version and Mac version) ...,my computer is by default ignoring the pc files on the cd and showing me the mac files....

when i ran the install cd on my pc and transferred the pc related files onto a flash drive...my mac computer can still read the flash drive and it does indeed show the pc files

which leads me to believe that my mac computer can read and run exe files with the help of Darwine..

the only problem again is that the mac is ignoring the pc files on the cd...and the cd is the one i need to run does that make sense?

againlike i said in my first post i tried using the emulator to run the classic version and its not working because its too slow and sluggish (the classic environment)

ps isnt crossover the same thing as darwine?

CrossOver is a tweaked version of WINE that seems to have better results than WINE itself. The devs for CrossOver have taken the time to make the necessary tweaks to make sure that most apps will work with it. With WINE, it's free but it's up to you to make sure you take care of the tweaking. It works a good amount of the time, but for some apps it might take some extra tweaking.

While the executables might have launched using DarWINE, that doesn't necessarily mean that you won't encounter problems with other aspects of the applications. CrossOver might have some better luck running these apps, but you'd have to check the CodeWeavers website to see if the application is well-supported.

hi..the problem still remains though my issue right now is not running the exe file...the exe file can run fine with darwine

it just wont be able to install itself from the flash drive....i need to install it from the actual cd. and i need to be able to run the file from the cd but how can i run it if my Mac is by default ignoring all the pc files on the cd??

What happens if you open the CD in terminal and do an ls -l ? That might show the files. That or make all invisible files viewable with a utility like Cocktail or Onyx.

It's actually 'ls -a' to show invisible files, not -l.

I'm not sure off the top of my head how to access the Windows files, but I have a couple ideas:

If you open Disk Utility with the CD inserted, do you see two file systems listed? If there's a second, select it and click Mount.

You might be able to trick the installer by making a disk image (.iso, I guess) of the CD on the PC and then mounting that on the Mac.

D'oh! l is long form info right, its ls -la for long and show invisibles. My terminal-fu is very rusty. Cheers for the save Mikuro
